Each story in this series takes us behind the scenes to show how to do the things, and make the things that form the modern world. Each episode reveals the hidden story behind another familiar part of our lives. We rarely consider many of the objects which make up the modern world - elevators, stockings, underground railways, football boots, ballistic missiles, carpets, helicopters, breast implants, street lights, submarines, bricks, machine guns, supermarket trolleys. But apparently simple things are often the products of the most extraordinary, highly scientific engineering processes.
